A large group stayed back in Lemoa to help Lisa and Kemmel do some things that they needed to be done and believe me, it was greatly appreciated!!
Lisa is showing Marcos and Josefina her new paint and counter tops in the kitchen.
Kemmel is also excited with the new colors!
Julie finds a hammock to relax in after the work is done.
The group was also able to visit the house I am now renting and hang new curtains for me! Thank you very much.
We enjoyed dinner together and it was a fun time talking about what the week had been like. Everyone had different experiences and opportunities and all for the same purpose.
Lisa and Kemmel...........they have been looking forward to the visit from Eastside and now I understand why.
Benita and Allen................Benita has recently been to Africa and was only home a few days before coming to visit us. She brought the supplies that are needed to check our patients for HIV and Syphilis. Allen helped with anything that was needed.......................he even drove on the wild roads of Guatemala!
Jackie and Ted..............Jackie took vital signs, helped screen patients and also participated in the childrens activities. Ted prayed with the patients after their consult which is very important. We had a young lady test positive today for pregnancy and the family thought it might be due to abuse in the family. I am sure there are still days that Ted thinks about this.
Mary Jo and Joe............Mary Jo spent most of the week helping Marcos with the dental patients. Joe prayed with patients, helped with the construction and even worked on the plumbing in Clinica Carris.
Ferne and I.......................Ferne was active with the children all week, singing and coloring.....she has left sparkles all over the Chichi area and even in some children's hair!
Josefina and Marcos......................they took people with them every day to clinic and were always willing to answer questions as needed. Josefina has great new hair style and Marcos looks a little different without his new set of teeth he had in Xepocol :)
The group at the end of the table were high energy!! They kept the children entertained, sang songs and participated in all of the activities. I am still not sure who won the tortilla eating contest :)
Julie and Baruch...............Julie worked in the pharmacy, helped Maury with her English and also practiced some K'iche'. Baruch used his skills in making the tables and in other projects. He also lost his suitcase during his travel down and NEVER complained about it!
Mary and John.........................Mary coordinated all of the children's activities and is best known for her "hokey pokey." John and I saw patients together and I appreciated all of his help. He can introduce himself in three languages :)
We finished the evening with a devotional again on the roof of the hotel........singing, praying and remembering the events of the week.
Tomorrow morning some of the group will head home and some of the group will continue a few more days in Guatemala, visiting Tikal. We pray for everyones safety as they travel!
The guys and I will head to Choacaman IV.......................and we look forward to it!
