I want you to meet a friend of mine who is doing a wonderful work here in Guatemala. Jane is from Winston Salem, NC and has begun a mission here in Guatemala called, "Evelyn's Basket of Love and Life."
Jane's first grandchild, Evelyn, was born with a cleft lip and palate. She had her first operation when she was 3 months old by Dr. Figuero and has done very well. Dr. Figuero is from Guatemala and Jane learned about the high incidence of babies in Guatemala born with cleft lips and palates. The majority of these babies die due to malnutrition or are turned away from the hospital, without any resources. It was at this time that Jane decided that she wanted to be, "an instrument of God" and help these babies.
Jane's first trip to Guatemala was in June 2006 and her fifth trip was in March of this year. She gives baskets of specialty bottles and breast pumps to the families that have a baby in need. She has made a connection with Lloyd, in Panajachal, who has a ministry at Solomon's Porch. He helped her with transportation when she was here. During her trip here in March, Jane was able to distribute 24 baskets and since she has returned home, 3 more have been delivered.
This is exciting for Health Talents because she has referred two babies to our clinic in Lemoa. We are very hopeful that these babies will have surgery in August, in Clinica Ezell, when the plastic team arrives from the States.
Below is a photo of Jane with a Baby Diego, who at this time is only a few days old. Jane is showing his parents how to use the bottle and equipment. There is also another photo of Diego on the April 21 blog when he first visited us in Lemoa. He was 24 days old at that time.
If anyone is interested in helping Jane with her mission or if you interested helping a baby that needs surgery, please email her at jbartel52@yahoo.com. I will do my best to get you a photo of the child before and after surgery.
